February Featured Artist Elizabeth Higgins
Meet our February Featured Artist
Elizabeth is primarily a watercolor artist who has lived in Oregon since 1995, where she maintains a home studio and teaches youth painting classes at the Walters Cultural Arts Center in downtown Hillsboro.
She loves to use color and shape to tell stories. With a background in art history, she is especially interested in the events and circumstances that lead artists to create.
She is a member of Watercolor Society of Oregon and Oregon Society of Artists, as well as Westside ArtShare, a group of women artists who live and create in the western part of the Portland metro area. She has been a member of Village Gallery of Arts since 2012.
For the February Featured Artist show, Elizabeth created many watercolor abstract paintings which she then cut up into smaller pieces, rearranged, and glued down to create new paintings. This fun process was like working a puzzle, and the best part was playing with the smaller painted pieces and moving them around to see all the many ways they could be arranged before deciding on the final arrangement and gluing it down.
You can see more of Elizabeth’s work on her website at www.watercolorwheel.com.
Join Elizabeth on Sunday February 12, 2 – 4 pm at the gallery for her art reception.
