Artist • Don Jarman
Don Jarman first painted when he was in high school. He investigated art schools but his parents would have none of that, saying "you will never make a living." So he followed his father earning degrees in Drama and Literature, Religious Education and a Doctorate of Ministry.
The desire to be involved in fine art stayed with him and he satisfied it by learning stage makeup at USC. He later became a makeup tech for Portland Opera. As a member of a number of art associations, he became the President of the Hill Art Association. He studied with Bill Soloman (Holocaust survivor), Mike Daniel, Linda King, High Duncan, LBCC, and David A. Laffel (featured in L Cateura’s book, Oil Painting Secrets from a Master).
Returning to Beaverton in 2001 he has taken courses from Mark Andres at PCC, Christi Purple Elsie Stuhr Center and is a member of The Village Gallery of Arts. He has been described as a “narrative painter.” His work often shows his background in Theology such as Eucharist and Boy with Loaves and Fishes.
