“Artistic license”–the freedom to create art without constraints or boundaries–is what motivates me to paint.
I paint primarily in watercolor. The luminous quality of watercolor and the way colors mingle on the paper excite me. The challenge of different media such as pastels and acrylic are also aspects of my creative journey. Transforming paint or sticks of pastel into a painting is magical. My paintings are mainly realistic but I strive to keep an open mind and creatively challenge myself with non-representational paintings as well. Good design, originality and creativity are the hallmarks I strive for.
Art has always been my passion. Spending my early years in Western Pennsylvania surrounded by steel mills and railroad tracks inspired me to see beauty in all things. Arriving in the natural beauty of the Northwest to pursue my career in advertising was a visual awakening and inspiration. Even though “life got in the way” with the usual responsibilities of career, family and life in general, I never abandoned my love for painting.
I am a juried member of the Watercolor Society of Oregon and have had paintings selected for juried exhibitions. I am also involved with the Lincoln City Cultural Arts Center. I continue my creative path by taking art classes at the Village Gallery of Arts, and most recently participated in Chris Keylock-Williams’ watercolor class at the gallery.
