Meet the VGA Board – Connie O’Reilly
I joined the board at Village Gallery after being approached by our President, Judy Vatne, last summer. A member had resigned and Judy asked if I’d be interested in serving as ‘second vice president’. I asked what that meant, and she smiled and said that officially the position was to act as Parliamentarian. I asked what that entailed, and she smiled again, saying she wasn’t sure, but then assured me that she would find tasks that would keep me busy while being of service to the gallery. I agreed to give it a go, if she promised to mentor me in the operation of the gallery.
I had two goals-
To help out a gallery that I felt committed to and to find out how it operated, and
- To meet and hang out with good artists.
- It has been a privilege to work with amazing artists and incredibly dedicated volunteers who make this organization thrive.
The position has involved being a liaison between several of the committees and the board, to help out when needed, problem solve when necessary, and open up lines of communication between committees, members, and the board.
I have had no formal art training, but I’ve done various arts and crafts since I was a child. I call myself an ADD artist, and have taken workshops and classes in watercolor, mosaic, encaustic, collage, acrylics, and others too numerous to mention. I still don’t know what I want to do when I grow up, but then growing up is highly over-rated. I’m having fun!
