Basic Drawing – Debbie Teeter

Class maximum:  8 

This class is for the beginner or someone wanting to sharpen their skills of observation.  We will work with different types of black & white drawing media to explore contour line, value range, technique, focusing mostly on simple shapes.

Supply list: 
A few drawing pencils– #2 or HB & a 2B or darker*
Charcoal pencil (Hard or medium) plus white*
Sketch & wash pencil*
*or the “Derwent Sketching Collection—a 12-piece set that has all of this plus more
Kneaded or white eraser
One #8 to #12 watercolor brush
Faber Castell PITT pen, S or M, or Micron PN, 05 or 08 (ultra-fine point permanent black pen).
Xacto knife
Your sketchbook (or a pad for note-taking), pencil and eraser.  Aim for one with pages that are at least 5”X8”, 67 lb or heavier.  Sheets of 67# white vellum Bristol are also good.
Smock or apron is recommended
Optional:  a drawing board, larger than your paper

About the Artist: I’m originally from the south side of Chicago and earned a BFA and MA in Art Education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a Certificate in Commercial Design from the University of California, San Diego.   I have been a licensed art educator in Illinois, California and Oregon. Since moving to Portland in the late 1980s, I have taught beginning through advanced high school art classes in the Forest Grove and Beaverton School Districts, and art instruction methods to prospective elementary educators at the University of Portland.
