I once read that the opposite of depression is not joy, it is expression. So – create, create, create! For it is the soul’s medicine. If that is true then organizations that support the arts, like the Village Gallery of Arts, are the soul of our communities. Not only local art communities but our communities at large.
It can be difficult to measure the impact VGA has. But as a Gallery Assistant, I have heard visitors to the Gallery express their appreciation by saying things like, “I love stopping in to see the new exhibits,” “I brought my granddaughter to a ‘drop-in’ event, and we had a wonderful time,” or “I enjoy seeing the eclectic range of art created by local artists.”
As Membership Secretary I have witnessed the impact VGA has on its family of artists. Not only does VGA provide professional and emerging artists with the opportunity to share their art, it provides a diverse group of people with a place to learn, share, meet and make friends with a common need to create art.
Organizations like VGA can keep the doors open and lights on with donations, sales and dues. But the most meaningful things require a commitment of time and self. Integral positions like Education Coordinator, Inside Show Leader, and Treasurer are currently open and waiting to be filled. Please invest a little time in VGA – you will gain much more than you give.
Please welcome Bridgett Pollock to VGA.
Bridgett found VGA while searching on Google for an art family in the Portland area. Her medium is watercolor and ink. She is employed full-time but is looking forward to serving as a Gallery Assistant and assisting with children’s art classes.
