3D Artist – Rae Campbell  – “Through the Years”

Through the years is a collection of many different styles and techniques that I have learned. Different types of glass are unique and react differently in their use.

Powders are very fine and are great for silk screening designs right onto the glass before firing.  Frit is different sizes of glass from mosaic size all the way down to fine frit, used for Painting with glass, not as detailed as powders, but still great details for frit painting. Stringers, laying them out firing, cutting up and then arranging them in to create more complex designs.

There is something magical that happens when you combine different types of glass material, then fire it in the kiln. There are endless possibilities with the degree of heat and the movement that happens.

I have been working with glass since 1999, and it is still exciting to me, feels like Christmas morning every time I open the kiln and see the finished fused pieces. It is just as exciting when teaching a class, and seeing how excited my students get creating their first piece of art. When they describe their art, instead of describing the design in detail, I often see the word “Masterpiece.”
