Glass Artist – Eileen Milsap
Art in many forms has surrounded me my entire life. My mother was a painter and print maker. Our home was filled with art from many artists: painters, sculptors, printmakers, and potters. Paints, inks, presses, tools were the playroom toys my siblings and I grew up with.
As an adult I made my living in Medical Imaging- X-Ray, Nuclear Medicine, PET, and MRI images were what I worked with every day, enhancing images to better diagnose what was occurring in the body. The shapes and colors of the human body awed and inspired me.
In 2024 I moved to the coast with my husband and 2 dogs. I have discovered new inspiration from the dark roiling tides of the winter to the sunny deep blue water of summer.
In my new studio space, I work with large glass sheets of many colors and textures. I design my pieces, cut, and fuse them in one of several glass kilns I have in my studio. For the last stage I slump my pieces into their final shape in glass molds. My work is largely functional consisting of bowls, plates, and other useful shapes. With the smaller pieces of glass, I design and make jewelry.
