Intermediate Watercolor Painting—Susan Pfahl

Watercolor for those who have completed a beginning level class or have equivalent experience.

Each class, we will work on building skill sets to improve our painting abilities. Then we will paint using these skills. Masterpieces are unlikely, but skills will increase.

Returning students are welcome to repeat this course. New projects, topics, and techniques will be presented in each subsequent series of this class.

Supplies:

• Watercolor paints, your choice of colors. Be sure to include red(s), yellow(s), and blue(s) to allow for color mixing. Raw Sienna or Quinacridone Gold and Burnt Sienna or Quinacridone Burnt Scarlet are recommended, but not required.
• Watercolor paper (best is 100% cotton), Cold press or Rough. Your choice of size.
• Watercolor brushes, minimum of 1” flat, and ½” flat, plus rounds in size 2 and 6 or so.
• A board or other support is helpful for holding the paper.
• Plastic palette such as Richeson 8 well slant mixing tray (An old, plastic ice cube tray works too!) Nicer, but more expensive is a Blick Covered Palette or similar.
• Masking Fluid
• White Artists’ Tape (optional)
• Two water containers. (I use old Yogurt containers)
• Pencil and white or gum eraser.
• Paper towels.

Other items may be suggested in class but are not required.

If you have watercolor supplies, please bring what you already have!
