Artist biography:
I’m Diane Ramic, an illustrator and graphic designer currently based in Portland who uses a variety of both traditional and digital mediums in my body of work. I try not to limit myself to a medium or style; I find it fun to explore different ways to create art. Watercolor, inks, and digital vector art have been favorites to experiment with.
I pull most of my inspiration from nature’s deep past when creating art themed around science fiction, fantasy, and educational pieces about the creatures we share (or have shared) the planet with. I like to draw upon lifeforms that have come and gone when imagining ones that, somewhere in the vast universe, might be or have been out there.
My personal work tends to focus on speculative biology, xenobiology, worldbuilding, character design, and paleoart. I have also delved into book illustration and layout, role-playing game design, and typography. Coloring books and zines have also gone from a recent venture, into a sustained series of annual projects. As for personal favorite subjects in my art, I think that can best be summed up with the phrase: “Here there be dragons.”
