When I was 5 years old, we lived in Hood River, OR. I remember finding agates in the gravel around our home. I was in awe of their beauty AND they were just laying around on the ground for the taking! My dad moved us all up to Fairbanks, Alaska when I was 13 years old and…fast forward 64 years later after our careers and a family in Fairbanks, in 2014, my husband and I retired, sold our home and property and became full time RVer’s. That means, we traveled the states visiting family and friends.
While in Arizona visiting our daughter and out on a walk, I looked down to see a quartz point in the sand. Suddenly, my 5-yr old passion for rocks came flooding back before my eyes! The joy, wonder and awe were all still there, just asleep until that moment. God’s perfect timing! From there, I was introduced to rock tumbling by one of my neighbors while we were there and then I was wanting to do something with them all. So, I started to investigate wire wrapping and here we are!
I am self-taught by reading and watching videos. I thoroughly enjoy learning, growing and exploring everything having to do with wire wrapping, tumbling and hopefully soon, my own rock cutting and cabochon making. I also collect all types of wonderful wood pieces from beaches to deserts to create tabletop, plant bling and sun catchers. My husband helps me out here and there creating and welding up display holders for me as the store-bought ones just aren’t strong enough to hold the weight of some of my creations.
I am grateful to have found Village Gallery of Arts to be able to share my passion with you all and get to meet amazing artists while becoming a part of a supportive, artistic community. We will be settling here for a little while, not sure how long, but will enjoy it while we can!
Thank you for following me on my journey and allowing me to share my art with you.
