Community Arts Program – T. J. Conway

February 19 @ 5:30 pm - 9:00 pm

VGA’s Community Arts Program (CAP) presents its first presentation of 2024

This event was postponed due to weather.   It will now take place on February 19 at 6:30PM at the Village Gallery when TJ Conway, Manager of Bethany Frame Central, will share his professional knowledge of the art of framing.

From TJ:

“Why is it that artists tend to gravitate towards black frames with white mats to display their artwork? Is it truly the best option? Short answer: No, it’s not (most of the time).

By taking a short dive into the history of framing to see how we’ve ended up at this being the by-and-large standard treatment for artwork. I’ll talk about how I design as a professional framer to combat the notion that a black frame and white mat is the best option for most pieces. My goal in designing a frame is to accentuate the artwork; oftentimes this is best done using a combination of color and texture to really make the artwork sing. You can give the same piece to ten different framers and end up with a hundred different designs—that’s the beauty of framing!

Join me on January 15th at the Village Gallery of Arts to learn some of my design techniques and get ideas on how to frame your art for your next show!”

CAPs are free to members and the public.

Please RSVP to Sharon Dunham at dunhamsw@frontier.com if you plan to attend. We hope to see you there!
