Teen-Adult Class

Carolyn Adams & Debbie Teeter

2 Saturdays; August 3 & 10

Time: 1 – 4pm

Cost: $70

Class minimum 4; maximum 8

Level: Any, Beginner to Advanced

Limit: 4-8

Most supplies included. Just bring a full-sized note pad for writing and pen or pencil. You may want to bring an apron for session 2.

In this two-day workshop, participants will learn about the interplay between poetry and visual art. You will learn tips and techniques for creating ekphrastic poetry including block-out poetry, and visual art. When the sessions are over you will have at least one poem and a work of art to take home and enjoy. The first session will be spent writing poems inspired by the art in the Village Gallery, as well as block-out poems derived from print materials. In the second session (two weeks later) you will create visual art prompted by a poem written by one of your fellow attendees. Examples of works will be provided for guidance. Woven throughout the workshop will be opportunities for collaboration and collective learning.

Carolyn Adams holds a degree in Humanities from the University of Houston. She is a widely published poet, as well as freelance artist and craftsperson living in Beaverton, Oregon. Debbie Teeter has a BFA and MA in Art Education from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. She now teaches at VGA and primarily works in watercolor and acrylics.
