Explore Watercolor on Yupo—Debbie Teeter

August 29 @ 9:30 am - 12:30 pm

$45.00

3-hour workshop
Thursday, August 29th
9:30am – 12:30pm
Cost: $45
Class minimum: 2 maximum: 8
This workshop is for those with basic color mixing skills and some previous watercolor
experience. Have you wanted to try working on Yupo, but chickened out? Or have you tried
it, got frustrated but are willing to give it another go? I can relate…Or are you just curious?
Yupo can loosen up your technique; it’s easy to fix mistakes or simply start over. Yupo is not
paper but polypropelene. It has its own set of challenges but offers unique results. I can help
you get your paint to adhere and hopefully have fun exploring how to give your usual ideas a
new twist. You might not finish a painting during this session, but the goal is to get you started
and feel more comfortable with using watercolor on Yupo. And if you don’t like the results,
you can wipe it out and start over!

Supplies:
• A photo or photos you might enjoy working from. A landscape is a good choice but not
essential.
• Tube watercolors
• A mixing palette
• Watercolor brushes that hold paint well
• A drawing board or plexiglass scrap at least 11”X14” *
• Your sketchbook (or a pad for note-taking), pencil and kneaded eraser. If purchasing a new
sketchbook, aim for 67 lb or heavier paper, so it can handle some wetness
• Recommended: Smock, small foam roller if you have one, spray bottle, Q-tips, roll of paper
towels–it doesn’t have to be a full roll.
• Any other supplies you like to work with
• I will give everyone an 11”X14” sheet of Yupo to work on. If you already have some, bring
it! No tape necessary.
* Tap Plastics in Tigard sells plexiglass/acrylic scraps in the bin by the pound. It’s a real bargain and a great place to pick up a cheap surface to anchor your paper to. It doesn’t have to be clear.
