Gothic script was used actively from the 800’s to the 1400’s ad. It is still used for newspaper mastheads. Think of “The Oregonian” or “The Washington Post”. Today we associate it with Halloween and with Christmas music.
This is an introductory class which covers how to create the letter forms in the Gothic script, so you can practice and perfect this script outside of class. No prior experience with calligraphy is needed for this class.
The left handed are welcome.
Supplies:
Vellum Tracing Paper 9” x 12” or similar. Please be sure calligraphy lines can be seen through a sheet of paper.
One piece of clear vinyl or acetate, same size as paper. (This helps protect guidelines from excess ink.)
Calligraphy felt pen(s) 2.0mm. (Note: sizes can be between 1.5 and 2.5 mm) The size of the pen nib affects the size of the letters.
If you already have them, and prefer to use them, dip pens and ink wells or calligraphy fountain pens are also welcome.
Pencil or pen to take notes.
Additional items will shown in class.
