Leah’s Note

Leah’s Note:

Hello! My thoughts for this month are inspired by tabling at the annual Volunteer Fair last Saturday at the Beaverton City Library.  I looked around at the other organizations serving our community and met a few local heroes, too.  Those that give their time to deliver food to the elderly, or assemble backpacks for foster kids, or rescue abandoned animals — these folks have my admiration and respect.  I felt a little bit useless at a table where we were just coloring using 30 different colors of crayon…. but you know what?  I realized that the Village Gallery table was the STRESS RELIEF table.  And I think there were actually more adults who wanted to color than kids this time!  Life can be tough, but if we have art to rejuvenate and refresh us along the way, things can feel a little easier.  With art, we’re helping those who help others.

With every Art Kit handed out to someone (such as at the recent Venezuela’s Voices event), with every free activity for all, with each technique learned in a class, with each new artwork created and displayed with pride — we all are healed, and put back together — a little at a time, piece by piece.

Hope to see you soon at the Gallery!
